about Barbara

Born and raised in London, England,     Barbara spent her early years making up bedtime stories for her young brother.  To this day, she considers herself a storyteller rather than a writer.  She won her first short story competition at the age of 14 and was big- headed for ages when the story appeared in the local newspaper.

Writing sat on the backburner until the early 1980s, when a car accident kept Barbara bedridden for six weeks.  A friend set up a laptop so she could write down the stories she'd made up for her children .... and she hasn't stopped since!  As a freelance writer, her short stories and articles have appeared in a variety of newspapers, magazines and journals.

Barbara's family moved to Australia in 1968, when she started work as a receptionist.  An office life continued until 1981 when she attended the Edith Cowan University, studying to be a teacher of English and Business Studies.

Since graduating, Barbara has combined her teaching and administration experiences with writing.  Her work as a business consultant and mentor, has allowed her to extend her book list.

Barbara's first editing role came in the August of 1989 when she was the contributing editor for Storylines, a news pack of the Northern Territory Tourist Commission.

From 1995-1997 she became the contributing editor of The Oz Writer, a monthly magazine for writers, and two magazines for young writers.

In 2003-04, Barbara became the contributing editor for the first three issues of Urdesires magazine.

In between these assignments, she has edited countless in-house business magazines.

In 1997 Barbara wrote her first Christmas book.  It was meant to be a one-off for friends and family but has become an annual event.  One day she thinks she will combine it all into a bumper Christmas book.

Ninety-nine per cent of Barbara's books are a direct result of her personal and career lives ... and the desire to share what she has learned.

Barbara likes to keep busy so as well as working on this year's Christmas book she is also working on a series of "Goosebump"- type books for young readers, a fantasy novel for teens, and more informative non-fiction books like the ones you will find listed on this site.
